Strikers - a general ramble!

Strikers are usually easy to find in Football Manager as there are thousands of them, from ages from even 14 to even 41 (Yes, I’m looking at you Teddy) But finding a striker for your team can be quite difficult and stressful as your team will always play in different styles. For example a team like Bolton they play quite defensive and don’t score many goals as there players are used to playing defensive therefore it’s hard choosing the right striker that can play the same style as them. However it can be quite easy if you’re an attacking team like Arsenal you have many options of where to play your strikers as your other outfield players will always be pushing up to support them so they have got a more simple, easier job. Strikers are very important without them you’ve no-one that can really keep scoring and getting your team up the ranks. Always make sure you have a back-up striker that can score as it is better to have any striker than having to use a defender to be up-front. Imagine putting John Terry up there and you were playing Man United and all your strikers were either injured , suspended or not playable. You wouldn’t be able to score, as i don’t think in my opinion John Terry has any finishing skill. So like i said i would recommend having a decent back-up striker to support your injured/suspended/incapable player. I will quickly go over the main attributes for a striker. For starters finishing obviously, what’s the point in having a striker who can’t finish in front of the goal? A 15 plus attribute is suitable for a striker. The next one is pace and acceleration, your strikers need to be fast with the ball and not slow down as the defenders can easily get the ball but if your player has good acceleration and pace it should be much harder for them to get the ball and for you to get round them and go for goal. A 16 or higher attribute is needed in my opinion. An important one is composure, a striker needs composure so they’re comfortable in front of goal and not scared and think they’ll hit it wide. A good amount of composure is necessary by all means. The last one I’d say is strength and headers. The strength is like the speed attribute i was talking about, defenders would easily tackle you if you were a weakling. Heading is important as well as it is another opportunity to score rather than using your feet. All the other stats i am talking about all mix together with heading the ball As you need speed to get into the box waiting for the cross, strength to push the other defenders out of the way, and composure that you will header this ball and finishing it comfortably. I hope you enjoyed reading my short article on Strikers, all of the information is my opinion, so if you disagree with points you’ll know why. Written by. Ali
