A future for the Scene?

Posted in Scene | On February 2nd, 2008 | By Kazzy

I'm sure there are many people who observe the scene and think to themselves, 'This just isn't what it was 2 years ago'. Then there are the 'new' members who ask, 'What was it like two years ago?'. Well here's a short recap for all you people who are in doubt…

The FM Scene was a thriving community. People would rush home from school, work, whatever they were doing just to log onto the computer and make a few posts here and there, download a few updates. There would be endless discussion, Off-Topic and on the FM side of things. There were many sites around, Some of the bigger ones would of included - FmCentre (FcukFm followed a few months after, which was also a success), Throw-In, Goal-Kick, FM-Underground (Although, maybe even 2 years ago that could of been well past it's prime), and of course, Susie. Excuse me If i have missed any, my apologies. Why isn't it like this now you ask?

This is down to a number of things really. Obviously, I can't speak for everybody when I say this but, I personally feel it's down to people getting bored of the scene too quickly, nothing new is being done. Yeah there are the same old ideas, Guides, Tactics, Databases, Interactive discussion and so on, but it's well known that nearly every site offers that now, just with a little twist. That's not keeping anyone interested though, to be honest.

Secondly, I feel the FM series has gone downhill, ever since FM 2006. Now I know I definetly don't speak for everyone when I say that, as many people still play FM 2007 and 2008 with pure enjoyment for hours on end- It just didn't appeal to me and many others, although we're probably a small majority within the mix.

There are too many people nowadays, who want content and things to take part in, but aren't willing to help out. The majority of sites, although they have staff and so on, would appreciate a dig-out every now and again. It may seem to go un-noticed and all that jazz, but it really isn't. After all, every little helps.

Too many sites thrive on written content, sadly, I don't think this is what's going to revive the Fm-Scene. Yes, there are some people who read guides and take the advice on board and use it. I have always found though, no matter how much you write or anything, you're still leaving something out. How can we solve this? Who knows. Perhaps some video tutorials, although that'd take work and time, something that most people aren't willing to give in this day and age.

Does the Scene have a future?

Yes, I think it does. Although, it all depends on one thing - Innovation. What team of 'EggHeads' can conjure up some unique ideas? I don't know, can it even be done? It'll take some thinking to get people involved or to give people the motivation to try help out.

That's just my two cents really, Feel free to add your opinion, or change something I said, it'll be interesting to see other peoples perspectives.
