Acquiring your transfer target

Posted in Player Help | On March 12th, 2008 | By Kazzy

Today im going to try and take you through what i believe is your best way of getting that player you want. Im going for they type of player who will realistically join your club, of course young players and players who play at clubs below your own status would be pretty easy. This is aimed at the more difficult prospect.

Scouting

So ok, im playing as my beloved Liverpool FC and Samir Nasri of Olympique De Marseille has caught my eye. Now i know he is quality already but the first thing to do here if you are not sure on how good the player is, you should get him scouted. The best option is to have him scouted over 3 matches so thats what im going to do. Of course i have sent my best scout for this errand as samri is a difficult target.

After 3 games my scout has reported back, of course he reports after every game but i want to know if there is any concistency in this player. Now fortunately for me 2 of the games Nasri was scouted in was the Champions league where he faced Arsenal twice. My scout tells me that Nasri has had 2 fantastic games against Arsenal which is excellent. It shows me he can compete with the top teams in my league. My scout also says that Nasri would be a leading star for most premiership sides. Im told that a bid of £26.5million is roughly what it could cost me. I have the money so onto my next plan of action.

Bidding

Firstly i immediately slap in a bid of £26.5 million. I trust my scout, also im going to start "tapping up" Samir. Off i go to player interaction and i tell the press im in awe of Nasri's talents. Almost immediately Nasri responds in a positive manner by saying he accepts my praise and is gratefull. Onto my next media play, I then tell the press i will do my utmost to sign Samir Nasri. Again Nasri immediately responds, he tells the press he is very flattered to be linked with my club and if i made a serious bid he would seriously consider it. Now for me that is enough media play, Samir clearly wants to join my club so now its onto the bidding war.

Contract negotiations

Marseille get back to me a few days later and say they want a deal starting at £39.5 million with 10% of his next sale going to them. I am not willing to pay that without heckling so i bid at £30million with no clauses. Again a few days later Marseille respond and to my amazement they have accepted my bid, its no-where near what they wanted but im not complaining! So onto a contract offer, he wants a 4 year contract at £86,000k a week. Currently he is on £30,000k a week so im going to bargain with him, I think he is trying it on a little. He also wants £3.4 million signing on fee so i reduce that to £1.5 million and his wages to 55,000k a week. I also take down his appearance fee and goal fee a little. Now i await his response. It takes Nasri 2 days to get back to me and to my amazement yet again my offer is accepted. Not only have i saved £1.5 million on his signing on fee, i save around £5,000k a week on appearance fees and £3,000k a week on goal scoring bonuses. What i am most pleased with is the fact i have saved £31,000k a week on his wages. I had a feeling he was trying it on and i was right.

Overall thoughts

Once Nasri signs which unfortunately for me is in July as im passed the transfer window not only do shirt sales increase but the fans react in a positive manner that i have managed to sign a real gem of a player. Nasri will fit in nicely alongside Gerrard in my midfield and im sure will help bring me much success.

Quick tips

  • Always scout the player where possible
  • The media is a helpfull tool in convincing the player he belongs with you
  • Never immediatley offer what the club wants for the player, always haggle
  • The same goes for contract negotiations, if a player wants to come to you he will for much less than sometimes asked

It is 3 seasons into the game mate when he has developed immensely. Damn worth it!

I’ve never paid signing on fee ^_*
I’m sure Samir will accept you offer even without signing on fee.
