Anger Managment
Posted in FM Blog | On July 23rd, 2008 | By Ash
It’s been a long time since I remember shouting at the screen whilst playing Football Manager. For me, the idea of losing the Champions League Final in the last minute of stoppage time isn’t half as bad as it would have been losing it in CM01/02. Are we used to the idea of losing these important games after a successful increase in the FM series? Or is the ‘fun-factor’ no longer there? For me, it’s not the latter- I still play the game out of sheer fun, it just seems that losing these big games no longer brings out the anger management problem we all seemed to have had in the past.
You can’t deny that you’ve never banged your desk, nearly punched the scream or shouted at a relative for ‘disturbing’ you. It just seems in the last 3 series of FM, losing big games just doesn’t leave the same guilt-edge as it used too- my brother used (key word, used) to say I had a problem, but fortunately for him only the computer desk, the keyboard and my pride would have taken a beating.
Have we maybe just accepted the fact it’s football, and these things happen? (Istanbul, for example). I’d like to know what your take is on this, are you still a die hard fan and cry every time you lose a big game, or do you just grunt and continue with your game?

I still get extremely angry every time I lose and fair enough, not as badly as I used to, but I am considered quite a firey person.
I haven’t broken a mouse or joypad in well over 5 years, I just get angry but don’t lash out violently. Most I’ll do is get an angered look and grunt. I guess being 25, it’s just a sign of getting older.

i used to go crazy. i do with most comp games though. When my brother and i used to play pro evo a lot when he scored i would smack the controller againt my head until he replay had stopped. Then i started to get really bad headaches so thought i should stop. I will tell you whats annoying is when you beat Tottenham 6-0 away and then beat them 2-1 away in leg 1 of champions league semi. Then they beat you 3-1 at your home ground. I just take it out on my players now rather than the monitor which i used to punch.

I really hate loosing and I cant stand it at all! I am not as bad as I used to be with anger management over FM, but when I play online with my friends is when I really get frustrated, because online I can’t re-load the game ![]()
